Elonization Of The World — Is Elon Musk A Cultural Moment?
We all heard about Elon Musk and his personality, who I have been following for over ten years.
Today, people look at him as the richest man in the world.
If we consider all the places he is trying to take humanity, Elon Musk’s overall fusion of popular culture with his projects and persona gives him a unique resonance with people.
I believe, Elon Musk is himself a cultural moment, a butterfly effect that is radically changing views about how society will work, at three levels.
Human Becoming Real Cyborgs
Brain-machine interfaces are one of those incredible ideas that were once the reserve of science fiction.
Elon Musk's company NeuraLink is creating an implant into our brain that could remove the barrier between thoughts and the expression of thoughts, as words, painting, or music.
According to Elon, people are in effect already “cyborgs” because they have a tertiary “digital layer” thanks to phones, computers, and apps. NeuraLink's tiny, easily implantable device will instantly read and relay neural activity.
Apart from revolutionizing brain-machine communication, NeuraLink opens new possibilities to repair our bodies and cure diseases, but also ways to hack into our mind.
Alien Rocks Ending Poverty
Elon Musk’s company SpaceX is pioneering space traveling and Mars colonization. Mining base materials will be a huge part of that, so perhaps Elon is considering it more than we imagine.
I believe that the biggest impact of shipping a large number of alien rocks back to earth would be on our monetary system.
The continued growth of digital currencies and blockchain technology is significantly changing the world of payments and finance. Unlike most cryptocurrencies that have speculative value, an alien-rock-backed token’s value will be tied to a tangible asset, which cushions it against severe price fluctuations.
Alien rocks would blow down the value of earth metals such as gold. Apart from dismantling the value chain of rare metals, this would mean the end of money as we know it, and maybe the end of poverty.
AI Transforming Work
Elon Musk's company OpenAI is at the edge of Artificial General Intelligence, which would allow machines to express human-like intelligence.
AI typically learns from data. If it has to behave like a human, it should be provided with sample data from all stereotypes of humankind.
Global access to human-created data can soon be possible thanks to Elon's Starlink project, which aims to provide satellite-based internet access in every remote area of the world.
Starlink launched another 60 Starlink internet satellites into orbit recently. Elon's goal is to eventually have more than 40,000 satellites beaming the internet down to users around the world.
Global internet coverage would open a highway for collecting real-world data necessary to train AI.
I believe that there is a subtle cause-effect relationship between Starlink and the future of work. Research suggests that over 60 percent of all occupations can be automated. By achieving Artificial General Intelligence, thanks to Starlink's data, we will have robots take over all labor-intensive work.
Many people are afraid of AI taking their jobs because workers will need different skills to thrive in the workplace of the future. In my opinion, what might also happen, is that achieving Artificial General Intelligence could release human creativity to its historical maximum.
Most of us will have more time to think, consciously.
With Covid-19 pandemic, many less digitally savvy folks were forced to put their lives online. They are having their smartphones, smart TVs, smart food delivery, or smart workplace becoming part of their lives. Elon's brain-computer interfaces are coming as a new extension of our biological capabilities.
People, who never used any credit card before, are now trading cryptocurrencies. An Elon’s powered Mars-currency would reshape our monetary beliefs.
Many anti-digital folks, who never used any virtual conferencing tools before, are getting their business meetings online for a year in a row. Elon’s Artificial General Intelligence will revolutionize our culture of work.
Elonization is a rising pop culture, yet to come, virtually inevitable.
